How the AGP-3R garlic planter works

The GARMACH AGP-3R is a ground-driven, chain-type automatic garlic planter with 3 planting rows. Its moving chains carry metal planting cups that pick up individual cloves from the hopper and deliver them towards the planting furrows. The chain mechanism handles clove pick-up mechanically, so operators do not need to place every clove into a planting cup by hand.

Planting performance depends on clove grading, soil preparation, travel speed and the selected configuration. Before ordering, discuss your crop size, target row and in-row spacing, and tractor with the Australian distributor.

WHY THIS MODEL?

A compact three-row layout

The AGP-3R is a practical choice when a grower wants three planting lines and a relatively wide adjustable distance between them. With equal spacing from 150 to 480 mm, it offers the broadest row-spacing range in the AGP family.

For three equally spaced rows at 300 mm, the outer row centres are 600 mm apart. This leaves room within the maximum 960 mm mounting span.

Planning your row spacing

Measure row spacing from the centre of one furrow opener to the centre of the next. The 980 mm figure describes the opener mounting frame, not the overall width of the machine. The maximum distance from the first to the last opener centre is 960 mm. The calculator below shows equal spacing; individual opener positions may also be adjusted to create unequal spacings within the available span.

For the AGP-3R, the equal-spacing range is 150–480 mm. For three equally spaced rows at 300 mm, the outer row centres are 600 mm apart. This leaves room within the maximum 960 mm mounting span.

Adjustable row spacing

Set the equal centre-to-centre distance between adjacent furrow openers. Actual opener positions can also be arranged unevenly within the available span.

Understanding machine width

1560 mm overall width is the external width of the complete machine, including the wheels. This is the figure to consider when checking gateways, shed access and transport clearance. Each wheel tyre is 125 mm wide.

The 980 mm opener mounting frame is a separate measurement. The furrow openers can be positioned within a maximum 960 mm centre-to-centre span between the outermost planting rows. These dimensions describe different parts of the machine and should not be confused with the overall width.

All four AGP models share the same overall machine width. The number of planting rows and their adjustable spacing vary by model.

Press wheels and additional press roller

Individual press wheels — one per row

Each planting row has its own trailing press wheel. The wheel follows the planted row and firms the soil after the clove has been placed. The AGP-3R includes 3 individual press wheels as standard.

Additional press roller — standard equipment

A separate full-width roller is also supplied. It follows behind the individual press wheels and provides an additional pass over the planted surface. See the actual roller and row wheels in the product photographs above.

Choose the right planting cup

Ø23 mm — for small planting material, including small garlic cloves and onion sets.

Ø28 mm — standard option for typical garlic cloves.

Ø36 mm — for larger cloves and suitable larger bulbs.

Cup selection depends on the size and shape of your planting material. Ask MacWood to confirm the best option.

Frequently asked questions about the AGP-3R

Does the operator place each garlic clove into the chain?

No. The AGP uses moving chains with planting cups to pick up cloves mechanically. Operators monitor the machine and planting material rather than hand-feeding every cup.

What row spacing can the AGP-3R achieve?

With equally spaced rows, the range is 150–480 mm measured between adjacent opener centres. Unequal arrangements are also possible within the 960 mm maximum span between the outermost opener centres.

Which planting cup size should I choose?

Three diameters are available: Ø23, Ø28 and Ø36 mm. The best choice depends on the dimensions and shape of your graded garlic cloves or other planting material. The standard Ø28 mm option is commonly used for typical garlic cloves; discuss unusual sizes before ordering.

Are the press wheels and roller included?

Yes. The AGP-3R includes 3 press wheels, one per row, plus an additional press roller as standard equipment.

How many operator seats does this model have?

The AGP-3R has 1 operator seat.

Can I use it for onion sets or other bulbs?

Suitability depends on the planting material and the required layout. GARMACH offers several cup sizes, but you should provide a sample or dimensions of your material and confirm the configuration with MacWood before ordering.

Can I get a quotation and delivery to Australia?

Yes. Send your delivery postcode, intended crop, planting area and desired row and in-row spacing through the enquiry form below. MacWood Horticultural Machinery handles Australian enquiries in cooperation with GARMACH in Poland.

Standard equipment

The AGP-3R is supplied with 3 press wheels (one for each planting row), an additional press roller and 1 operator seat. The planter uses interchangeable planting chains with cup diameters selected for the crop.
